The Closet freaks TEAM

Stage Left Productions has been pushing the envelopes of both disability and theatre since 1999.
Alan Shain, Michele Decottignies and Troy Emery Twigg have each been creating daring live performances since 1999.

Stage Left has drawn them together out of a shared desire to expose the lived experience of oppression as a disabling barrier to virility, for two sexy-as-all-hell guys who just can't satisfy social norms of what men are suppose to be – no matter how hard they try.

Through ballsy transgressions of normalized aesthetics, writer/ director Michele Decottignies offers up an utterly unique, erotically edgy love story that's just a bit bent! Alan Shain & Troy Emery Twigg embody resistance to the minimization of impairment while boldly affirming disability as desirability. Together, we turn stereotypical disability tropes into a cheeky exposé of the utterly ridiculous pressures that pop culture ("society") foists on those of us who don't measure up to idealized norms of human beauty.

In Closet Freaks, we offer the non-disabled access to a unique brand of saucy social satire; so that we may laugh together, at the social foibles that trip us all up, instead of laugh at each other.

***   ***   ***   ***
Closet Freaks: Mild mannered individuals on the streets, who let loose when between some sheets.
Closets: Dark, dank and cramped spaces where queer people hang the social shame we carry on our shoulders.
Freaks: People who were deemed social oddities, so were put on display for "the norms" to gawk at and wonder over.
