Putting disability culture centre stage!
From access to identity to aesthetics: Staging Counter-Culturalism
Closet Freaks is a satirical CripTease that uncovers the complexity of the body politic for a slightly twisted disabled guy, who can never be "man enough" in a disabling society. So. This Tragic Tale of Sip & Cleo, a very queer couple, puts the non-normativity of disability counter-culturalism in the limelight, as they (literally and figuratively) strip away the spent symbols of "overcoming adversity" and expose the social biases they have to navigate before they can let loose their lust for each other. The setting is "society". But it might be a trap. Can Sip resist the pressures to "man up", Or will he be cured into compliance? "Whoso who must be a man must therefore also be a non-conformist." |
